CLIMATE-SMART AGRICULTURE

Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is an integrated approach to managing landscapes, aiming to support agriculture activities in adapting to the occuring global climate changes, induced by the human.
There are three goals, which CSA aims to achieve simultaneously:

  • Higher Productivity: CSA supports the production of more and better food to improve nutrition security and boost incomes; this is especially important for those, living in rural areas and mainly ensuring their livelihood through agriculture.
  • Sustainability: CSA reduces climate-related risks like drought, pests, diseases; and improves the ability to adapt and grow during longer-term stresses like shortened seasons and erratic weather patterns.
  • Lower Emissions: CSA means lower emissions by food production, no deforestation and new ways for carbon absorbtion.
